California Love

January 28, 2011

Greetings from the West Coast (or as some would say the “Best Coast”). My dad and I flew out to San Diego on Wednesday to see and play some golf and enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery. On Thursday morning we traveled up to Carlsbad where Taylor-Made had a performance institute. I was custom fitted for all new clubs, including the new R11 woods. The R11 woods have a white head instead o the traditional black or gray… pretty sweet.

After Taylor-Made, we drove down to Torrey Pines where the PGA Tour is playing this week. We saw a little bit of everybody including my good friend Will Strickler who was making his PGA Tour debut. We also went back out there this morning for a little while. It’s always fun to watch the best players in the world play in person, you can really learn a lot from those guys. In the past I’ve learned things like routines, techniques for particular shots, and course management. This time, however, I learned that I can play with them. While guys like Tiger and Phil will always be impressive, I watched a lot of players who I felt I could beat. I realize I have plenty of progress to make but it’s encouraging to know that the next step is not all that big.

I met up with former Duke golfer Jennie Lee last night for a little while. Other than her new title as LPGA Tour player, she’s the same ‘ol JLee.

Next on the agenda is playing some golf rather than watching it… My dad and I just got to the Palm Springs area where we plan to stay until Tuesday. We practiced until dark at Desert Willow and we’re playing at the Classic Club early tomorrow morning. On Sunday we are playing at SilverRock with OD and Barb Vincent (the parents of my former Duke coach, ODV3). Monday is open as far as plans go but I’m confident we’ll find something to do around here….

I’m leaving Cali on Tuesday for Orlando and will play in one last Hooters Winter Series event Feb. 8-10 before heading up to Hilton Head for the first eGolf tournament. I’m doing my best to follow the good weather, let me know if you think I could be doing better… Thanks for following!
